Survey Project DescriptionThis project will demonstrate your understanding of fractions, decimals and percents as well as surveys. You will develop and conduct a survey, then analyze the data and use it to create a graphic display. Finally you will draw conclusions about the results of the survey and create a final presentation. In addition to learning about surveys & employing your math skills with fractions, decimals and percents, you will be implementing technology in every step of this project. You will create your own website for your survey, create and conduct the survey online, use online tools to analyze and display the data, and finally create a finished product with conclusions from your survey that will be posted on your project website.
STEP 1: Create Your WebsiteGet started with WEEBLY. If you hove over the tabl for PROJECT DIRECTIONS above, you will see tabs for each STEP. Click on the page for STEP 1 to see a selection of help videos for Weeby. View videos to help understand how Weebly works, then get the basic design of your website started. NAME YOUR WEBSITE SURVEY PROJECT
STEP 2: Determine Your Topic, Questions & Possible Answers then Post to WebsiteDecide on a topic for your survey. The topic should be something important to you that you really want to know the answer to. Not something you already know the answer to, and not something trivial. Your research should be meaningful and help us all understand the world we live in a little better. On this page there are several resources to help you understand how to develop survey questions.
Think of a larger TOPIC, then come up with three or four questions that will help you understand the topic better. Watch the videos below to help you understand how to develop good questions. Each of your questions should have three or four multiple choice answer for respondents to pick from. YOU MUST GET YOUR TOPIC, QUESTIONS & ANSWERS APPROVED before you continue the project. Post your TOPIC, QUESTIONS & ANSWERS on the first page of your WEEBLY website. Step 3: Create Your SurveyOnce you have gotten your topic, questions & possible answers approved you need to actually make the survey. Weebly has a built in widget that you can add to your page for a survey. On this page is a video you can view that will help you understand how to add the survey widget and put your questions in. Below is an example of what the survey widget will look like.
STEP 4: Conduct the SurveyYou can invite people to take your survey on your website, or you can email the survey to them. We will discuss methods for selecting people to take your survey in class.
Step 5: Analyze the DataOnce your have conducted your survey, you will put all of your data together. The information you collected is RAW DATA and you need to organize it and draw some conclusions from it. You will be creating a RELATIVE FREQUENCY TABLE in Microsoft Excel which allows you to see how many people chose each answer in the survey (called the frequency) along with the relative frequency (a ratio of how many people picked each answer out of the total) and the percentage for each one.
Step 6: Consider the Data & Draw ConclusionsOnce all the data is collected and analyzed, you must consider what it means. What was your original goal in conducting the survey? Did you learn what you wanted to? Are the results what you expected or different? So you feel that your survey did what you wanted it to, or do you feel the need for further research into this topic? The page for STEP 6 will give you some information about the importance of a conclusion and how to write one. YES, YOU NEED TO HAVE AT LEASE A PARAGRAPH WRITTEN FOR THE CONCLUSION which will be included in your final project display.
Step 7: Develop an Interesting Display for the ProjectThe presentation of your project can take many forms. On the page for STEP 7 I have give you links to sites that help you organize and display your data (graphs & charts) and also to websites where you can create a presentation. BUT, it is also perfectly ok to create all of your work in your WEEBLY site. Your presentation should include the following:
1) Reasons for choosing your topic - what did you want to learn? 2) Your topic, the questions in your survey and the possible answers for each question 3) The data you collected, displayed in charts or graphs 4) Your analysis and conclusions about the survey - what did you learn? Was it what you expected? Do you have follow up questions or changes you would have made to your survey if you did it again? ALSO, your presentation should be creatively displayed with related pictures and descriptions. You are welcome to take and use photos while working on the project and to create videos related to the project. If you have other creative ideas about how to present your project, feel free to ask me about them I want you to learn about new ways of sharing information using online tools, so get creative! |
